Hand Washing

So, earlier today I had lunch at a very lovely Golden Chick in Kyle, Texas. After my meal was done, I found that I had the need to use the restroom. After I got done doing my "bidness", as some might say, I went to do my pre-"bidness" routine of washing my hands. I then got to thinking about how in some restrooms in other establishments I have been to they post a sign telling employees that they must wash their hands before returning to work. I then started to wonder why they would even need a sign telling them to wash their hands when it should be a fact to everyone already. After I had this thought I took a look around this particular restroom. It was a nice single toilet affair..great for privacy. I noticed though that there was no sign telling employees to wash their hands. I then came across this thought, "If employees are dumb enough that they need a sign telling them to wash their hands, and this one doesn't have a sign....how many people don't remember to wash their hands that work here?" I then realized I ate a meal here..and worried about my health. I then walked out of the restaurant and went about my day forgetting this moment. I did not get sick or anything...I guess my body has a great defense against eating dirty food.

Summertime Blues

I wish there was some way I could become motivated to really practice over the summer. I put it off and put it off until something else comes up and I can't remember wanting to practice in the first place. I think the real reason why I don't practice is because its so painful, and the reason it is so painful is because I'm out of shape...and why am I out of shape?..because I don't practice. Now don't get me wrong, I love playing my horn, but it is tedious when there isn't an imposing recital, concert, or lesson hanging over your head to work up the motivation to play something. Something is referring to etudes or a solo, because there is NO WAY I have the patience right now to sit through an actual technical session...I probably shouldn't put this on the internet because now everyone(the two people who read this) will know how much of a failure I am by not playing as much over the summer. Each week is the week that I'm going to get better and build up my endurance for the school year..oh well.

On another note, I've lived in Texas for 22 years now. I once owned a truck, but I cannot stand truck drivers in this state. I especially hate the F-350 owners who just drive around town. They use a work vehicle for luxury. I don't understand why it is such a macho thing to drive around in a huge truck. Not only is it annoying they can't drive worth anything. I was almost pushed off the road the other day by an idiot truck driver(not the first time nor will it be the last.) I guess I had more hatred for trucks when the event actually happened. Plus, trucks aren't fuel efficient and they don't exactly solve any of the vehicle problems we've been facing here in this country.

Alright, enough of this...I have to go practice.

I wonder if grass can tell its not really rain?

Watering the Lawn

I was driving home from getting fast food(alright, I caved and gave in to my cravings) and I noticed this old woman hunched over with a hose watering a random patch of grass that was in the corner between the street and sidewalk. She was just holding the water and letting it run. I never really have understood the fascination of homeowners in Texas watering the lawn. Its just going to die...its Texas. We don't get rain for the majority of days over the summer, you're fighting a losing battle lady. That water could be going to good use, like putting it in a glass and drinking it.

Another good example of this is my mother. They recently removed a tree that had been there for many years out in front of the house. It was so big that it had killed all the grass underneath it. Now that the tree is gone there is a patch of bare dirt in our front yard. My mom felt compelled to plant "baby grass" and now she waters it every day. As of yet no grass...

I think that when I "grow up" (I guess I can't really say this anymore) or when I get my own house I'm not going to pay any attention to the lawn. In fact, on second thought, I may pull a Mike Brady and just have astro-turf in the front and back yards. That would make my life much easier. If I have a kid that complains about it being too hot to play on due to the sun, I will just tell them to sit inside and play video games like a normal kid. Yes, I think I'll make a great parent.

In closing, I think you could do something more useful than water your lawn. Nobody drives around neighborhoods just for the sole purpose of looking at a yard. Alright, its possible my mother has done that at some point in her life but still, most people don't. Why don't you just save that water for the rest of us and go do something more useful...like put on clothes.

Toodles.
